A shooting occurred in the parking ramp of M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota. Around 8:55 p.m., a 45-year-old doctor was shot in the head during an attempted robbery. The suspect approached the victim’s vehicle, asked to use his cell phone, and then shot him when the victim complied. The doctor was treated for non-critical injuries and released from the hospital the following morning.

The Edina Police Department responded promptly, and the hospital was placed on lockdown for several hours. A $5,000 reward was offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, described as an Asian man in his 30s with a shaved head and a tattoo on the right side of his neck.

Investigators later identified Matthew Rush, 33, of Minnetonka, as the shooter. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree aggravated robbery, and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Lucinda Ann Peterson, 50, of Minneapolis, was also charged with first-degree robbery and aiding and abetting after the fact.

This incident highlighted concerns about safety in hospital parking areas. Prior to the shooting, hospital employees had requested improved security measures, including better lighting and increased patrols, but these requests had not been addressed. Following the shooting, the hospital implemented enhanced security protocols, such as increased patrols and updated surveillance systems, to ensure the safety of staff and visitors.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining secure environments in healthcare facilities and responding promptly to incidents to ensure public safety.
