Illinois State University Seeks Public Assistance in Identifying Person of Interest in Recent Shooting Incident

NORMAL, Ill. — Illinois State University (ISU) authorities are requesting public assistance in identifying a person of interest following a shooting that occurred on Sunday night at the Bone Student Center. The incident, which took place during an event hosted by a registered student organization, resulted in a non-student being shot after an altercation.​

The suspect is described as a slender Black male, approximately 5’10” tall, with a black afro hairstyle, and was dressed in all black. He was last seen fleeing south from the intersection of University and College Streets. Authorities have released a description and are urging anyone with information to come forward.​

In response to the incident, the Bone Student Center remains closed, and all activities there have been canceled. Counseling services are available at the Student Services Building for those affected. ISU President Aondover Tarhule emphasized the university’s commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment, stating that the incident is under investigation and that support services are available for students and staff.​

The Normal Police Department is leading the investigation and is requesting anyone with information to contact them at 309-454-9535. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via text to 847411, using the keyword NORMALPD. The university continues to cooperate fully with law enforcement as the investigation progresses.​

As the investigation continues, ISU and local authorities are working together to ensure the safety and well-being of the campus community.
