Born with a passion for education and a desire to make a difference, LaVonda’s academic journey began at Howard University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications. During her time at Howard, LaVonda not only honed her academic skills but also developed the communication and leadership qualities that would define her career.
She later pursued a Master of Education at Temple University, where she specialized in Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology, further equipping herself with the tools needed to inspire and lead in the classroom.
Her journey didn’t stop there. LaVonda was committed to continuous learning, and in her pursuit of becoming a well-rounded educational leader, she earned several advanced degrees. She obtained a Master of Reading from Cabrini University, followed by a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from Gwynedd Mercy University.
LaVonda’s thirst for knowledge culminated in her completion of a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership & Administration: K-12, also from Gwynedd Mercy University. Her educational background was a testament to her unwavering dedication to the field of education and her determination to provide the best possible guidance to her students and colleagues.
LaVonda’s professional journey began in 2006 as a teacher, and she quickly established herself as a compassionate and skilled educator. She spent over a decade as a teacher before transitioning into administrative roles, where she continued to support students and teachers alike.
Her first administrative role was as an Assistant Principal and Curriculum Specialist at Abington School District, where she served for four years, shaping curriculum and guiding educational strategies that benefited both students and educators.
Her leadership skills were further demonstrated during her tenure as the Principal at W.H. Davis Elementary School in Abington School District, where she remained for several years.
LaVonda’s leadership was characterized by her unwavering dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, ensuring that each child had the resources and support they needed to succeed. Under her leadership, Davis Elementary became a model for educational excellence.
In 2021, LaVonda took on the role of Principal at Centennial School District in Southampton, Pennsylvania. Her leadership there was marked by her ability to bring out the best in both students and staff.
She was known for her collaborative approach, always working closely with faculty, parents, and community members to ensure that the educational needs of all students were met. LaVonda’s ability to lead with empathy and compassion made her a beloved figure in the Centennial community, and her work left a lasting impact on the school and the district.
In July 2023, LaVonda began her role as Principal at Cherry Hill Public Schools, a position she held until her passing. Despite her relatively short time at Cherry Hill, she quickly made a significant impact, bringing her years of experience, her passion for education, and her strong leadership skills to the district.
LaVonda’s commitment to educational excellence was evident in her efforts to create a nurturing and effective learning environment for students, and her work at Cherry Hill Public Schools will be remembered fondly by her colleagues, students, and the entire community.
