The Denton County community is grieving following the tragic death of Brooklyn Rivera, a beloved student at John H. Guyer High School. Authorities have confirmed that Brooklyn was the teenager found deceased in what appears to be a suicide in the Lantana area earlier this week.
Brooklyn, known for her bright spirit and kindness, was a cherished part of the Guyer High School family. Her sudden passing has sent waves of heartbreak through the school and wider community, as friends, classmates, and teachers remember her for the joy she brought to others.
In a show of unity and compassion, the Burrows Law Group has stepped forward to support the Rivera family during this unimaginable time. In a statement shared this week, the firm expressed their deep sympathy:
“Our hearts are with the Rivera family as they grieve the unimaginable loss of their beloved Brooklyn.”
In response to an outpouring of concern and generosity, the family has shared that they currently have an active meal train and do not need additional food. However, they are facing the significant financial burden of funeral expenses and have a heartfelt desire to establish a lasting legacy in Brooklyn’s name.
To help honor her memory, the Burrows Law Group is now collecting donations at their front desk to assist the family with immediate costs and to launch a scholarship fund in Brooklyn’s name. This future scholarship will be dedicated to supporting young women with dreams of attending Texas Tech University—a school that holds a special place in the hearts of the Rivera family.
“Every contribution, no matter the size, is a meaningful way to honor Brooklyn’s legacy and support this grieving family,” the statement reads. Mealtrain.
The Denton Independent School District has also expressed its condolences and is offering grief counseling and mental health support to students and staff impacted by the loss.
As the community continues to process this tragedy, Brooklyn is remembered not only as a student but as a friend, daughter, and beacon of kindness whose light will not be forgotten.
For those who wish to contribute, donations can be made in person at Burrows Law Group during business hours.
