HIGHLAND HAVEN, TX – A tragic boating accident on Lake LBJ in the Highland Haven area on Saturday afternoon has left one individual dead and a community in mourning. The incident occurred near Chaparral Drive and prompted a swift multi-agency emergency response.

According to preliminary reports, the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), and Granite Shoals Fire Rescue and EMS (GSFR-EMS) were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call about a boating incident involving two individuals still in the water. The victims were reported to be a husband and wife, with one of them having been caught by the boat’s propeller.

Emergency responders mobilized quickly. The Granite Shoals Police Department (GSPD) prepared its patrol boat, and AirEvac 49 was launched en route to provide critical medical assistance. Upon arrival, responders located the female victim and brought her to shore. She had sustained significant injuries from the propeller and was in critical condition.

Onshore, emergency crews immediately applied a tourniquet and began administering CPR in a desperate attempt to save her life. Despite the efforts of first responders, including compressions and advanced lifesaving interventions, the victim succumbed to her injuries. AirEvac was subsequently canceled, and GSPD’s patrol boat was stood down.

Officials notified the Justice of the Peace (JP) to begin the required post-incident process. Authorities have not released the names of those involved, pending notification of next of kin.

The scene was somber as law enforcement, EMS personnel, and bystanders processed the gravity of the situation. In the wake of the tragedy, officials and the community alike are offering their heartfelt condolences to the family and everyone impacted.

No further updates will be provided at this time, out of respect for those involved and to allow for privacy during this difficult period.

Lake LBJ is a popular destination for boaters and vacationers, particularly on weekends and during warm weather. The accident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers that can arise on the water. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and urge boaters to exercise extreme caution, wear life vests, and remain vigilant about safety protocols, particularly when engines are running and passengers are in the water.

“Our hearts are with everyone involved and on scene,” said one responder. “This is a devastating loss, and we grieve with the family and the entire Highland Haven community.”
