Palmview, TX — A major lockdown was enforced at Palmview High School on Tuesday afternoon after two students were reportedly found in possession of firearms on campus. The situation prompted a heavy police response and heightened anxiety among students, staff, and families throughout the community.

According to initial reports, school officials were alerted to suspicious behavior involving two students. Acting swiftly, campus security and school resource officers investigated and discovered that the individuals were carrying firearms. The students were immediately detained without incident. Authorities confirmed that no shots were fired, and no injuries have been reported.

The incident unfolded quickly around midday, with Palmview High administrators placing the entire campus on lockdown. Students were instructed to shelter in place while officers from multiple agencies, including the Palmview Police Department, the La Joya Independent School District Police, and Hidalgo County Sheriff’s deputies, arrived at the scene. Helicopter surveillance was also reported overhead, underscoring the seriousness of the response.

Eyewitnesses described a tense and chaotic scene as dozens of law enforcement vehicles flooded the school grounds. Officers were seen securing all exits, sweeping the building room-by-room, and coordinating closely with school staff to ensure student safety. Parents were notified via emergency alert systems and began gathering near the school, anxiously awaiting updates.

“I just want my kid home safe,” said one parent, who waited outside the perimeter with dozens of others. “It’s every parent’s worst nightmare to get that kind of call.”

After several hours of careful clearing and investigation, law enforcement announced that the immediate threat had been contained. Officials later confirmed that two students were taken into custody and that the firearms had been confiscated. Their identities have not yet been released due to their age.

The motive behind the students’ possession of the weapons remains unclear, and an active investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working to determine how the students obtained the guns and whether there was any intention to cause harm.

The La Joya Independent School District issued a statement late Tuesday afternoon:
“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Thanks to the swift actions of school staff and law enforcement, the situation was brought under control without injury. We commend everyone involved for their professionalism and vigilance.”
District officials added that counselors would be available to students and staff throughout the week to provide support following the traumatic event.
Palmview High School will resume classes on a regular schedule, but with an increased police presence for the foreseeable future. Officials emphasized that safety protocols and procedures are continuously reviewed and updated to prevent future incidents.

The community of Palmview is left shaken but grateful that a potential tragedy was averted. More information will be released as authorities continue to investigate and review the circumstances leading up to the lockdown.
